To do this, launch System Preferences from the Applications Finder Window, Now Click on Users & Groups, highlight your user, and click login items at the top. Try disabling all of them, and enable one at a time and reboot to see which is causing the issue.

You may also want to check out CleanMyMac http://www.mikesel.info/cleanm... this can check for and remove orphaned settings and files etc.

Let me know how you get on.
Cheers
Mike

Re: Show hidden files Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion

WORKED GREAT!! I agree that typing one line of code is easy. However, for those who want the ability to quickly change this setting, an automated script is a great way to go! Using Automater is fairly straight forward and the author did provide great instructions. Took about 30 seconds to create and test. Thanks T.H.!

Re: Show hidden files Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion

So true!

Re: Disable spotlight indexing – OS X Lion and Mountain Lion

worked for me. watched as 3 external drives being indexed dropped from the spotlight menu. thanks for the tip.

Re: Disable spotlight indexing – OS X Lion and Mountain Lion

(I disabled it accidentally when was turning of some lion's eye-candy effects trying improving CPU usage even more)

Re: Disable spotlight indexing – OS X Lion and Mountain Lion

Thank you very much Mike!!!!

Re: Show hidden files Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion

Thank you, it works :) !
I used the "automator" way
ivo

Re: Show hidden files Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion

The thing with this is this: How can typing one line of code be harder than going into Automator and creating a script? You will lose most people once they fire up Automator. I speak from experience having tried one of these and I stopped and asked myself, "dude, you would've been done already if you typed the one line and stopped messing around". It's all good either way, I'm just trying to save people time by working smarter, not harder.

Re: FIXED: Do you want the application “iTunes.app” to accept incoming network connections?

Glad it helped out :)

Re: FIXED: Do you want the application “iTunes.app” to accept incoming network connections?

Not only does this work, but it makes iTunes loading super quicker. There's a good chance it may leave some bits behind, which means the problem will return once installed. Either way, let me know how you get on.

You could try CleanMyMac if you dont have any app maintenance tools installed - http://www.mikesel.info/cleanm...

Re: FIXED: Do you want the application “iTunes.app” to accept incoming network connections?

Hi Mike.
If you ensure finder is in focus, then click Go > Home, with hidden folders enabled you will see the 'trash' folder (slightly greyed out - see attached) in there should be what you are looking for.

Spotlight will NOT be disabled even though the terminal states that it HAS been disabled. Apple has lost total control of their protocolish weird OS !!!!
PS - the -a option SHOULD included the boot drive... as hinted by 'man mdutil' only it does not... It includes everything BESIDES the boot drive. That one you have to do separately. Still nonsense to do as it does NOT work. Only remedy is this:

1) Open System Preferences and goto Spotlight
2) Enter the Privacy Tab
3) Drag in all the disks you want disabled.

This WILL disable spotlighting on those volumes... But who know when they release OS Valley Monkey 13.5 that feature will probably also not work. Or better yet.. Be sandboxed. In 5 years we wont be able to use our Mac because Apple is sandboxing all the code... This is all becoming a really Pathetic reality.

Re: Show hidden files Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion

I was able to view hidden files, but I can not find the file://localhost/users/username/.Trash/iTunes Music where all my music has ended up.
